PIL Today
As one of the leading shipping companies in Asia, we are focused on our core business of container shipping, as well as other businesses including container manufacturing and logistics related services.

Incorporated in 1967, Pacific International Lines (PIL) is ranked 12th among the world’s top container shipping lines and is also the largest home-grown carrier in Southeast Asia. From a modest ship-owner in Singapore, PIL has developed into a global carrier with a focus on China, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Oceania. Together with its affiliated companies Mariana Express Lines (MELL) and Malaysia Shipping Corporation, PIL serves customers at over 500 locations in more than 90 countries worldwide with a fleet of around 100 container and multi-purpose vessels.

Apart from the core liner shipping business, PIL also has several other business units such as container manufacturing, depot and logistics services.

With its mission of “Driving Connectivity”, PIL strives to meet the needs of its customers through value-adding services.

Our tagline - Driving Connectivity

“Driving Connectivity” encapsulates PIL’s ongoing mission to build connections between businesses, and the markets they serve. It conveys our aim to bridge the gaps across oceans through reliable, efficient and innovative service. It also speaks to PIL’s commitment to develop stronger connections with our customers, partners and the communities in which we operate.

With over 100 vessels in our fleet, and with a presence in over 500 locations in more than 90 countries worldwide, we will continue to strive to expand our reach and network for the benefit of our customers. Looking ahead, PIL aims to grow further as a leading container shipping line, with sustainability and digitalisation as our key strategic focus.

PIL in China
PIL is one of the very first foreign shipping lines to enter China before the opening of the country. Currently, PIL offers customers 30 container liner sailings a week out of China, and it has 25 registered branches in the country, including its regional headquarters in Shanghai.

PIL also jointly owns and operates 18 logistics centres in China. Singamas Container Holdings, a company in the PIL group, has invested in five container manufacturing facilities in China.
PIL in Africa
Apart from China, PIL also has a strong presence in Africa. PIL started to serve Africa in the 1970s using general cargo vessels, and by the early 1990s, PIL upgraded its service to Africa with container vessels.

Today, PIL’s services cover close to 30 countries in Africa, with focus on East, West and South Africa, and has 13 container liner and feeder services a week out of Africa. This is supported by PIL’s agency network of 23 offices, and four logistics companies covering services such as depot (Egypt), warehousing (Egypt and Tanzania), and trucking (Sudan).
