PIL to restructure the Far East to East Coast of South America Service

SINGAPORE – Pacific International Lines (Pte) Ltd (PIL), today announced a new independent service in the Asia Asia-East Coast South America trade starting from January 2009. The current joint service with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL) will be dissolved. 

The new PIL service will cater to the growing trade demand between China and the East Coast of South America. Japan and Korea markets will be served via transshipment. This weekly service with 10 ships of 1,700 TEU capacity will serve South Africa on the Eastbound leg of its 70-day voyage.

From June 2009, PIL will operate this service jointly with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line). This enhanced service will be operated with 10 Panamax-sized vessels, with PIL and K Line deploying 5 vessels each.
