Teck Ghee CC Road Safety Event
12 August 2018

Teck Ghee Road Safety Carnival For Seniors And Families, was held on Saturday, 11 August. It was jointly organized by The Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) and its partners from Traffic Police (TP), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Automobile Association of Singapore (AA Singapore), in conjunction with Teck Ghee Constituency National Day celebration. Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour (GOH).

PIL's main involvement in the event was made jointly with our depot partner, Poh Tiong Choon(PTC), where we showcased both PIL container and PTC chassis and use them as examples of heavy road going vehicles pedestrians will encounter on Singapore roads daily.

The Road Safety Carnival for Seniors and Families aims to raise general road safety awareness amongst the seniors and their families and also to highlight the importance of road safety.

During the event, SRSC put up a skit to remind seniors to be more vigilant on public paths and roads, and to always use pedestrian crossings.

This is part of a nation-wide initiative under the Successful Aging Project to reach out to more senior citizens about road safety.

Also, as part of TP’s initiative and contribution, with the support from the Housing Development Board and the Singapore Road Safety Council, 400 drop-arm barriers of HDB carpark boom-gates would be installed with a road safety message to remind motorists to look out for vulnerable road users such as the elderly and children.

In addition, LTA had their Safe Riding Programme to educate cyclists and PMD users on safe riding behaviours, proper use of infrastructure when riding and the rules and code of conduct under the Active Mobility Act. They wish to inculcate good public path safety.

Besides conducting the Online Driver Risk Assessment for members of the public to discover their risk profile on the roads, the AA Singapore also focused on Blind Spot and Sedan Car educational activity at the road safety carnival. There were also interactive quizzes at the booth to engage participants of all ages.

PIL will continue to participate and contribute to similar community event and look forward to doing so on a regular basis.
